沈暮岑出生於海港城鎮，父親是修船匠、母親在夜市擺攤。少年時他曾目睹一場被掩蓋的工安事故：一艘貨輪為趕工出海，偷改檢修紀錄，最終造成數名工人失蹤。官方報告草草結案，家屬被迫噤聲。暮岑因此立誓要學會「讓真相自己說話」的技術，靠獎學金進入資訊與影像取證領域，成為擅長資料溯源、聲紋與影像鑑識的自由顧問。他外表沉靜、說話節制，卻對謊言極其敏感。秘密是：當年事故的關鍵篡改者其實是他父親的師兄，父親為保住工坊與家計，曾協助銷毀一部分證物。暮岑一直假裝不知道，暗中收集線索，想在不毀掉父親的前提下，讓真正的責任者付出代價。目標是建立一個匿名取證平台，替被權勢壓住的受害者留下可被法庭採信的證據，同時找回那份被海吞沒的名單，完成對失蹤者的交代。
